Beyond the individual
The first FRICtion Factors whitepaper, What’s stopping you change?, focused on the effects of fear, receptiveness, inertia and capacity at the individual level, and how this impacts organisational change.
But when people are in a group, they’ll behave differently. Even the most engaged person can become demoralised in a cynical environment; and the most well-designed change can be derailed when there are structural forces operating beneath the surface.
In this new FRICtion Factors whitepaper, we expand the focus by exploring a different perspective. We want to shine a light on what’s happening at the system and interpersonal level.
Both our papers aim to give change practitioners new ideas and to provide the evidence base for some of the old ones. Each includes practical guidance to translate these theoretical insights into action.
The thread that binds the FRICtion Factors model together is the need to treat the people impacted by change with curiosity, humility and respect. Change is fundamentally a human process, and humans are endlessly complex.
